Big Bad Voodoo Daddy – 9.16.16 – 7:30

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy - Sept 16

Friday, September 16 at 7:30 p.m. – Hering Auditorium

Together for over 23 years, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy — famously named after an autograph by blues legend Albert Collins — has appeared in concert venues across the world, sold millions of records, and had their music appear in hundreds of movies and television shows. With sold out concerts from the Hollywood Bowl to Lincoln Center, appearances with many of the country’s finest symphony orchestras, and television appearances ranging from Dancing with the Stars to Superbowl XXXIII, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy continues its decades long mission to celebrate and revitalize jazz and swing music — America’s original musical art form — and bring joy to audiences around the world.

Since its formation in the early nineties in Ventura, California, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy has toured, on average, for over 150 shows a year. From early on they have reminded the world—it is still cool to swing!

The band, co-founded by singer Scotty Morris and drummer Kurt Sodergren, was at the forefront of the swing revival in the 1990s—blending a vibrant fusion of the classic American sounds of jazz, swing, and Dixieland—with the energy and spirit of contemporary culture. The original core line-up includes Scotty Morris (lead vocals and guitar), Kurt Sodergren (drums), Dirk Shumaker (double bass and vocals), Andy Rowley (baritone   saxophone   and   vocals),   Glen   “The   Kid”   Marhevka   (trumpet),   Karl Hunter (saxophones and clarinet) and Joshua Levy (piano and arranger). Joining them on the road are Anthony Bonsera Jr. (trumpet) and Alex Henderson (trombone.)

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s effort to promote and revitalize swing music is more than a tribute to the original creators. The band’s horn-infused music combined with their high-energy performances is reaching a new generation of swing lovers.

Their high-energy holiday show here in 2011 was sensational!
