Delbert Anderson, a Diné jazz trumpet artist, composer and educator, stands at the forefront of a vibrant Native American jazz scene. His work, deeply rooted in his Diné heritage, seamlessly integrates Navajo “spinning songs” of love, healing and courtship with jazz, jam and funk, marking him as a community-minded Indigenous individualist.

With the Delbert Anderson Quartet, Anderson revives the improvised sounds of the Diné circle and blends them with contemporary styles. His compositions are inspired by Navajo Nation landscapes, historical events, and the desire to preserve and educate about Diné history.

The quartet’s spinning songs consist of Navajo improvised melodies from Delbert Anderson on trumpet, funk and groove rhythms from drummer Khalill Brown and fusion keyboardist Robert Muller, and exploratory jams from bassist Mike McCluhan.

Beyond their performances, the quartet is dedicated to fostering cross-cultural understanding through outreach, education, and wellness workshops. These initiatives encourage personal expression and community cohesion, reflecting the quartet’s commitment to creating inclusive and supportive environments for all.
