We invite you to interpret flying – by creating your own flying machine. Build a contraption, a costume, write a poem, tell a story, create a dance… show us how you are creative. Gather your friends, co-workers, and family. Watch as Fairbanks Takes Off!
We further invite local performers to participate – showcasing your talents in three minutes as your community cheers.
Participants will compete for the non-profit of their choosing, the winner selected by audience cheers in this parade, talent contest, and celebration of local creativity all emceed by Dr. Professor Tomáš Kubínek. The winning organization receives a package of support, including ads in FCA programs, promotional support for an event of their own, a grant writing class just for them and more while the contestants receive season tickets to the next FCA Season!
We want to know… Fairbanks! How are you creative!?!
Part vaudeville, part local talent contest, part parade. It’s a celebration of Fairbanks at our creative best. It’s a great way to spend the winter – dreaming up your project and scheming with your friends, family, co-workers – and a better way to embrace the spring as you create your project. Then show it to the community and compete for prizes for yourself and your favorite non-profit.
Our host and emcee, Tomáš Kubínek will be in Fairbanks the week prior to the event to meet with participants.
Rules and Considerations
- Anything leaving the ground or too big to get through the loading dock will be celebrated during the pre-event and must stay within FAA regulations and per the airport.
- All entries are welcome and will be displayed at the pre-event. Entries included in the event inside will be organized by Tomáš Kubínek.
- It’s possible that entries fitting into #1 could be included live feed and transmitted from the parking lot to the screen in Hering.
In the interest of having a safe event, here are some considerations when planning your project:
- To be on stage your entry must fit through Hering loading door. Garage dimensions are 9’6” Height x 7’8” Width. If too big you may have to participate via live camera from the Lathrop parking lot.
- Your project must weigh less than 700 lbs to preserve integrity of the stage floor.
- Effort must be made to avoid ruining the finish of the stage floor. Affix wheels to creation, line with felt or carpet if it needs to be pushed/dragged or plan to have it carried if necessary.
- No flammable liquid or highly combustible substances like gasoline will be permitted on stage, in or outside of the flight creation. Any other liquid required by flight creation will need to be appropriately contained to protect the stage.
- Combustion engines will not be allowed to start or run.
- FCA and Hering Management reserve the right to restrict operation and display of an entry to protect the safety of staff, patrons and facilities.
- At no time may flying objects enter the theater.
