FCA will present Jenn Colella and members of the Broadway production of
Come From Away
at the UAF Salisbury Theater
Fairbanks, we lucked out!
Jenn Colella, Broadway star, is coming here to perform. February 24th with members of the Broadway production of Come From Away (and yes, of course, that includes Caitlin Warbelow and this year James Yoshizowa, Music Director Chris Ranney, and Nate Lueck)
Why are we so excited?
Jenn just stepped down from starring in the Tony Award-winning smash hit musical in a performance that garnered her 2017 Outer Critics Circle and Drama Desk Awards and a 2017 Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Musical, as well as Craig Noel, Helen Hayes and Dora Awards for pre-Broadway productions of Come From Away. In an ensemble show, she was the only soloist: the star in a role she created. We were incredibly lucky to get her to “Come from Away” when we did! (Thanks to Caitlin)
About the show:
You can count on the evening being filled with Broadway hits from classic and modern shows alike (including Come From Away), as well as familiar pop/folk songs. It’s all extremely exciting material and Jenn’s got a powerhouse voice. Her repertoire sways to the more modern shows but there will be songs from modern classics like “Funny Girl”, “Anyone Can Whistle”, maybe even “Cabaret”. This will be solo Jenn with a 4-piece band – all musicians from Broadway’s Come from Away.
Jenn was nominated for a Tony award for her role as Beverley Bass in Come From Away – the show tells the story of 38 planes that were diverted from US airspace on 9/11 and forced to land in a tiny town in Newfoundland, Canada. Beverley Bass is the first female airline captain for American Airlines, and in the show Jenn sings a wonderful song called “Me And The Sky” which is taken directly from interviews with Captain Bass. (and yes, she’ll sing it)
How is this different from last year?
Besides for Jenn, we’ve kicked it up a notch. Taken more space. This has outgrown the Palace and these Broadway pros deserve a facility with a full stage with room to perform!
The UAF Department of Theatre and Film was kind enough to partner with us, allowing us to offer it to more people, in a more comfortable space, while still offering an intimate performance.
We’ll again be offering a killer auction package for two house seats to Come From Away (Value: $300 each), a $150 gift card to a nice NY restaurant and a backstage visit (including a photo kissing the Broadway fish). Say Hi from us!
(OH! And this just in: Come From Away was just voted the best musical of the decade just behind Hamilton and ahead of Book of Mormon and Dear Evan Hansen! – Go team!)
How does this happen?
This event happens for one reason only… Caitlin Warbelow. Caitlin is the violinist/ fiddler on stage in Come From Away. She holds All-Ireland and New England fiddle champion titles and has performed with Riverdance’s Heartbeat of Home, Sting’s Last Ship on Broadway, Cherish the Ladies, Mick Moloney, The Alt, and Michael Londra’s Celtic Fire. She received her M.S. in Urban Planning from Columbia University and holds a B.M. in Violin Performance and B.A. in Anthropology from Boston University. But she began her musical education here in Fairbanks and happily, she hasn’t forgotten us.
While here, they will visit North Pole and West Valley High Schools and give a workshop at UAF for aspiring actor/singers. Part of our Education Partnership Program this project supports!
Maybe we didn’t luck out after all…
Maybe providing music and arts education today leads to successful students who return to give back tomorrow. Help us support music/arts education today!
How can you attend?
Attendance is by invitation when you make a donation of at least $75 per person to FCA’s Education Partnership Program
Call us with your contribution and let us know you’d like to attend!
Help the next Caitlin Warbelow fly!
About the Workshop:
